About Voyager

Voyager Therapeutics (Nasdaq: VYGR) is a biotechnology company dedicated to breaking through barriers in gene therapy and neurology. The potential of both disciplines has been constrained by delivery challenges; Voyager is leveraging innovative expertise in capsid discovery and deep neuropharmacology capabilities to address these constraints. Voyager’s TRACER AAV capsid discovery platform has generated novel capsids with high target delivery and blood-brain barrier penetration at low doses, potentially addressing the narrow therapeutic window associated with conventional gene therapy delivery vectors. This platform is fueling alliances with Pfizer Inc., Novartis and Neurocrine Biosciences as well as multiple programs in Voyager’s own pipeline. Voyager’s pipeline includes preclinical programs in Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), each with validated targets and biomarkers to enable a path to rapid potential proof-of-biology. Job Summary:

Voyager is growing and seeking a Scientist I/II, Protein Biology to join our expanding Research team. As a gene therapy company, Voyager is constantly engineering novel AAV capsids which are changing the face of gene therapy for neurological diseases. Along the way, we are identifying the mechanisms which mediate blood-brain barrier (BBB) penetrance of these viral gene transfer vectors. We are looking for a talented and motivated Scientist I/II to advance a new Voyager initiative by supporting development of other new macromolecular drugs which can leverage these mechanisms for non-AAV cargos. This is an ideal position for an individual with a background in protein biology, who has a can-do attitude, strong work ethic, and thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and multi-disciplinary biotech environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a Scientist I/II on the team, you will be responsible for experimental design and execution, data analysis, and verbal and written reports leveraging binding moieties, such as antibody and peptide carriers, for these cell surface receptors, as well as supporting efforts to bring this science to new therapeutic programs
  • Execute in vitro and ex vivo assays to expand our capabilities in advancing our platform and proving our biology.
  • Participate in non-viral therapeutics programs for BBB-penetrant protein biologics leveraging identification of new BBB transport modalities.
  • Collaborate with our novel capsid discovery team to accelerate advances in receptor ligand biology.
  • Conduct experimental procedures precisely and consistently by following established protocols, as well as document and maintain a well-organized account of lab work and results.
  • Regularly communicate results within the research organization and at conferences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master degree/Ph.D in Biochemistry/Molecular/Cellular Biology or related discipline.
  • Minimum 0-2 years (with Ph.D), 7+ years (with MS), 8+ years (with BS) of work experience in a research setting.
  • Hands-on experience with molecular and cellular techniques including mammalian cell culture, and familiarity with ELISAs, Western Blot, PCR
  • Track record in protein biology and protein-protein interaction methods.
  • Experience in developing and optimizing molecular biological and cell-based assay (transcytosis would be a plus)
  • Outstanding problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to be highly productive and self-motivated in a fluid, fast-paced and team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with early drug development within a biotech environment.
  • Hands-on experience with processing and analyzing rodent-derived tissues.
  • Familiarity with expression of recombinant proteins and antibodies.
  • Working experience with antibody fragments and nanobodies.
  • Prior experience with recombinant protein engineering/optimization is a plus.
