Staff Materials Scientist

We are looking for a materials scientist with a surface science, physics, or chemistry background to join the advanced development team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with biological assays on surfaces. The individual must have passion and drive to work and lead from the lab. The position will require independent planning, thinking, and execution which will lead to data-driven progress. The ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment is crucial to be successful in this role. Strong experimental skills, intuition, and excellent communication skills are required.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Developing novel surface chemistries for silicon devices and testing biological assays on them
  • Developing and building the novel test stands for the purpose of monitoring biochemical processes using fluorescent or electrical readouts
  • Developing immobilization strategies for biopolymers on silicon, metal oxide, and nobel metal surfaces
  • Developing chemistries for antifouling properties of proteins, nucleic acids, and other biological molecules of interest
  • Engaging with various BEOL foundries
  • Making precision measurements just above the noise floor
  • Working with a world-class multidisciplinary team of scientists, physicists and engineers

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • PhD. in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, physics or related discipline
  • 10 years of industrial R&D experience is required
  • Experience in differential functionalization of materials and understanding factors that contribute to antifouling of biological molecules of interest as well as immobilization of large biopolymers
  • Ability to make precision electronic measurements in the nA range
  • Expertise with metrology tools and characterization techniques such as TEM, SEM, AFM, XPS, ToF-SIMS, FTIR, ellipsometry, contact angle goniometry, etc.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication processes
  • Ability to independently design experiments and interpret complex data sets
