Senior Staff Software Engineer, Algorithm Development

As Senior Staff Software Engineer, Algorithm Development, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of high-performance image analysis algorithms and software solutions, specializing in image segmentation, feature extraction, and pattern recognition.
In this role, you will:
- Utilize your expertise in OpenCV, C++, and CUDA to create optimized and scalable code for image processing and analysis tasks, focusing on real-time and resource-constrained applications
- Apply machine learning techniques, including hidden Markov models and Gaussian mixture modeling, to enhance algorithmic accuracy and predictive capabilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate these advanced algorithms into production software platforms to enable next generation of biomedical diagnostic instruments
- Utilize your solid background in signal processing to enhance algorithmic robustness and performance in noisy environments
- Draw from your past experiences in biotech instrument companies to innovate and address industry-specific challenges in algorithm development
- Participate in comprehensive code reviews, providing meticulous feedback to ensure code quality, performance optimization, and maintainability
- Maintain well-structured and organized documentation of algorithms, methodologies, and implementations
To be successful in this role, you have:
- Expertise in at least one interpreted / high level programming language (Python, MATLAB, Julia, Ruby, Javascript, R, or others) and one low-level compiled language (C++, C, Rust, Zig, or others)
- Proficiency in OpenCV, C++, and CUDA for high-performance image analysis and algorithmic coding
- A strong understanding of machine learning concepts, including hidden Markov models and Gaussian mixture modeling
- Expertise in signal processing techniques, with a focus on noise reduction and feature enhancement
- A demonstrated track record in developing image analysis algorithms, feature extraction, and pattern recognition solutions
- An ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts
- Experience with biotech instrument companies and a nuanced understanding of their algorithmic requirements (a plus)
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing clean, efficient, and optimized code
Preferred Experience:
- Previous involvement in developing software tailored to biotech instrument applications
- Familiarity with additional image analysis libraries and frameworks
- Proficiency in parallel programming and GPU optimization techniques
- Experience in the genomic, biotech, or PCR industries is a nice to have
- Enthusiasm for staying at the forefront of advancements in image analysis, machine learning, and signal processing
Education & Experience:
- Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in algorithm development and software engineering in a industry setting in a production development environment, 5+ years preferred.
Note: This position is based Onsite in San Diego and will require regular onsite participation at our office/lab in San Diego, CA - to apply you should be resident in the greater San Diego county area or in the process of relocating.
