Position

Nurix is seeking a passionate and accomplished biologist to join our mission of unlocking the therapeutic potential of E3 ubiquitin ligases in oncology and immunology. As a key member of our dynamic Discovery Biology team, you'll play a pivotal role in uncovering new small molecule degraders that hold the key to unlocking novel therapeutic avenues, unraveling their impact on cancer and immune cells, and deciphering their mechanisms of action. You'll be empowered to contribute your expertise, collaborate with inspiring colleagues, and thrive in the fast-paced environment of a rapidly growing company.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assay development and optimization for testing protein degraders in immune cells and cancer cells, focusing on Western blot, flow cytometry, and cell viability and proliferation assays.
  • Perform routine experiments to test the efficacy of protein degraders in developed assays, under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Maintain and prepare cell cultures for use in experiments, ensuring health and viability for accurate assay results.
  • Collaborate with team members to refine assay protocols and increase efficiency and reliability of data output.
  • Analyze experimental data, assist in drawing conclusions, and help present findings to team members and project stakeholders.
  • Assist in troubleshooting assays and providing practical solutions to encountered problems.
  • Prepare and present experimental results for internal discussions, clearly communicating findings and progress.
  • Work closely with other research associates and scientists to ensure seamless integration of assay development and testing within the project's framework.
  • Stay informed about new techniques and developments in assay technology and protein degradation research to suggest improvements to current protocols.
  • Ensure laboratory compliance with safety protocols and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Immunology, Pharmacology or a related field with 8+ years of discovery research experience or a Master’s degree with 6+ years in a relevant field.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture across a variety of cell types (immortalized cell lines or primary cells).
  • Experience with primary immune cells, including handling of human PBMCs and immune cell isolation from different tissues.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in development, optimization and execution of quantitative cellular assays to support small molecule drug discovery (including, but not limited to: western blot/simple western, luminescence assays, MSD/ELISA, flow cytometry, RT-qPCR).
  • Basic analytical skills to interpret data and contribute to experimental reports.
  • Familiarity with basic computer software for data entry and analysis (e.g., Excel, Prism).
  • Effective communication skills, capable of presenting data and findings in team meetings.
  • Excellent record-keeping skills and familiarity with assay documentation and data annotation using electronic lab notebooks (ELNs).
  • Experience performing functional T cell assays (e.g. activation and proliferation, cytokine secretion, differentiation, target cell killing) is preferred.
  • Experience with high-dimensional flow cytometry is strongly desired.
  • Experience with cell line development and viral or non-viral techniques to genetically modify primary or immortalized human cells (electroporation, lentivirus, CRISPR) is a plus.
  • Background in ubiquitin biology or targeted protein degradation is a plus.

Fit with Nurix Culture and Values

  • Strong team orientation; highly collaborative; solutions and results-oriented focus.
  • Strong scientific curiosity and initiative; hands-on and resourceful.
  • Self-driven and enthusiastic with the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.

Company

Nurix, Inc. is a science-minded, goal-oriented organization that is focused on bringing novel, first-in-class therapies to patients. Nurix is a leader in discovering a new class of drugs that work by modulating the protein degradation machinery of the cell. The Nurix scientific team has established an innovative drug discovery platform based on recent advances in understanding of the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS). The UPS is a regulatory network that controls protein stabilization and degradation, a function vital to the healthy life of a cell, uncovering therapeutic opportunities in multiple disease areas.

Nurix’s Protein Regulation Platform enables the discovery of selective inhibitors or activators of the UPS, enabling the discovery of new class of drugs that can restore normal cellular homeostasis. Nurix entered into an exclusive collaboration with Sanofi and Gilead for the discovery and development of next-generation therapies targeting protein homeostasis in oncology, immunology and inflammation, including the rapidly evolving field of immuno-oncology.

Nurix was founded by internationally recognized experts in the ubiquitin proteasome field and is funded by leading life science investors, Third Rock Ventures and The Column Group. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California
