About the role

insitro is bringing better drugs faster to the patients who can benefit most through machine learning and data at scale. Our mission is boldly ambitious, and requires us to navigate complex strategic and organizational dynamics and challenges. To help us meet those challenges, the Chief of Staff will work with insitro’s CEO and the entire Executive Team on mission-critical projects and activities. In many ways, you will be the ‘glue’ that helps our Executive Team (ET) stay connected and coordinated, both among themselves and with the broader company, through project management and administration and other supporting activities. This is a tremendously unique opportunity to grow and develop from collaborating with and being mentored by our CEO and her most senior leaders, while gaining exposure to most areas of insitro’s business strategy and operations.

This role will report directly to insitro’s CEO and be based in South San Francisco, with a hybrid approach of at least 3 days per week in the office and the option for 1-2 other days from home.

You will:

  • Own the corporate calendar and ensure sequencing and coordination of major activities across leaders and teams to ensure efficiency and mitigate overburdening the team
  • Help manage and facilitate corporate processes and executive activities including Board of Directors meeting preparation, value drivers and OKRs, ET meetings and offsites, etc.
  • Support the CEO and other ET members in:
    • Exploring, launching, and project managing cross-functional initiatives until they can be successfully handed off to functional leaders
    • Taking direct ownership on researching and occasionally executing on exploratory initiatives to gauge their value prior to launch of a broader effort
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to create alignment between the ET’s needs and ongoing company activities:
    • With the Chief People Officer and the People Leadership Team to support major change initiatives and programs that drive organizational effectiveness
    • With the EA team to manage the standing ET meeting agendas and suggest ad hoc meetings based on emerging issues or priorities
    • With the Communications and Corp Dev & Strategy teams in background research, materials development, and speaker prep for internal and external presentations
    • With the Project Management and Product Management teams to help ensure alignment with ET priorities

You are:

  • Motivated by challenges and bring a positive tone, growth mindset, an eye for solutions and proactive energy for rolling up your sleeves and building from scratch
  • Deeply responsible and accountable with a strong attention to detail and organization, never dropping the many things you are juggling
  • A Swiss Army Knife in your ability to take on a wide variety of problems and challenges
  • A curious and rapid learner who loves to immerse in new areas and topics
  • Comfortable and even energized by ambiguity and constant change
  • Emotionally intelligent and able to build strong trust and relationships with leaders and employees of diverse backgrounds at all levels
  • A strong structured thinker and an exceptional communicator in both written documents (memos, slide decks) and verbal interactions - someone who can distill complex information and questions to be digestible by others
  • Continually questioning the status quo, as you look for opportunities to innovate and break convention where you think better results can be achieved
  • Passionate about making a difference in the world for patients

You have:

  • PhD-level exposure to scientific work in both life sciences and computational/data science; can be a PhD (or commensurate professional experience) at the intersection, e.g., Computational Biology or Bioinformatics, OR a PhD in one field with considerable professional exposure to the other
  • At least 2-3 years experience in top management consulting or a similar project-based strategy role, with strong preference for exposure to highly technical, research-based organizations in a fast-moving and fast-changing, high-growth environment
  • Basic Python skills or a similar coding language, comfortable programming/scripting
