The Opportunity

We're seeking a motivated candidate to join the Metabolic Disease Therapeutic Area team at insitro for an internship. Your research as an intern will directly contribute to our ongoing study of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (or MASLD) biology. You will work closely with a team of driven scientists to develop cellular assays that recapitulate key aspects of metabolic dysregulation in the liver. You will validate the cellular models using multiple approaches including microscopy and genetic and chemical perturbations. Your responsibilities could evolve as the project progresses. As a part of this team, you will learn about target discovery and validation research in an exciting and fast-paced biotech environment. You will report to a Sci II on the Metabolic Disease team. This is primarily a lab-based role in our South San Francisco office, onsite 5X/ week.

Responsibilities

  • Culture and maintenance of different primary and immortalized cell lines
  • Use genetic and chemical perturbations to create relevant cell-based disease models
  • Perform high-content fluorescence microscopy and image analysis
  • Conduct plate-based cellular functional assays
  • Maintain an electronic lab notebook (ELN) to accurately capture experiment planning, execution, and results
  • Follow all laboratory training and safety requirements
  • Poster presentation to communicate key findings from the internship to the broader insitro team

About You

  • PhD candidate or a recent PhD graduate in the biological sciences or related discipline (e.g. molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, bioengineering, biochemistry)
  • Required - experience with mammalian cell culture techniques
  • Experience with troubleshooting and incorporating insights/protocols from literature
  • Highly desirable - experience with cell based functional assays (ELISA/biochemical), qPCR, fluorescence microscopy
  • Bonus - familiarity with the Seahorse assay platform

About insitro
insitro is a drug discovery and development company using machine learning (ML) and data at scale to decode biology for transformative medicines. At the core of insitro’s approach is the convergence of in-house generated multi-modal cellular data and high-content phenotypic human cohort data. We rely on these data to develop ML-driven, predictive disease models that uncover underlying biologic state and elucidate critical drivers of disease. These powerful models rely on extensive biological and computational infrastructure and allow insitro to advance novel targets and patient biomarkers, design therapeutics and inform clinical strategy. insitro is advancing a wholly owned and partnered pipeline of insights and therapeutics in neuroscience, oncology and metabolism. Since launching in 2018, insitro has raised over $700 million from top tech, biotech and crossover investors, and from collaborations with pharmaceutical partners.
