We are looking for an experienced bioinformatician to work on analysis of clinical NGS-based tests from our laboratory customers. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a strong team of geneticists, software engineers, data scientists, and other professionals who are shaping the future of personalized medicine. As a bioinformatician, you will actively participate in improving algorithms for variant calling and implementing prototype codes. You will also engage with the product development, clinical service, and software engineering groups to create innovative software and workflows that facilitate clinical interpretation and classification of genetic information with our product.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop algorithms for genotype calling from next-gen sequencing data.
Work with software engineers to develop, validate, and maintain various components of clinical next-gen sequencing analysis pipelines.
Work with data scientists and geneticists to facilitate the development of clinical solutions for genomic data interpretation.
Serve as domain expert and provide insights on genomic variants to clinical interpretation, customer support, and other teams.
REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
5+ years of industry experience in bioinformatics/computational biology positions with increasing responsibility.
3+ years of experience working with next-gen sequencing data analysis.
Experience developing algorithms for variant calling including detection of DNA copy number variation.
Excellent knowledge of genomics, molecular biology, high-throughput sequencing applications, clinical tools and databases, and a general business acumen in life sciences industry and markets.
Experience developing software/pipelines in Python, SQL, Perl, C/C++ or Java.
Significant experience developing software for deployment on Linux/Unix and the cloud services, including containers and parallelization tools.
Experience with modern build, deployment and containerization environments.
Ability of independent thinking and problem solving.
Obsesses over getting the details right but pragmatic to ensure on-time releases.
Team player with excellent communication and evidence of leadership skills.
NICE TO HAVE
Experience with containers (Docker), distributed data stores, and cluster-computing frameworks such as Spark is highly desirable.
A publication track record on computational biology/bioinformatics is a plus.
EDUCATION
PhD with strong background in computational biology or related field, or equivalent experience.
