What if you could repair broken genes? That is the question we ask ourselves at Editas Medicine. We’re focused on translating the power and potential of the CRISPR/Cas9 and CRISPR/Cpf1 (also known as Cas12a) genome editing systems into a robust pipeline of medicines for people living with serious diseases around the world. Our goal is to discover, develop, manufacture, and commercialize transformative, durable, precision genomic medicines for many diseases. We’re looking for talented, dedicated, passionate people to join our team and help us pioneer this field and do big, bold things that have never been achieved before. Are you full of hope, possibilities, and a belief that, working together, we can truly revolutionize the development of medicines to help patients around the world? If the answer is yes, then Editas Medicine is the place for you.

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative molecular biologist to join the Editas Platform. The ideal candidate will have expertise in addressing challenging genomic problems and a passion for assay development. Specifically, we are looking for someone who can research and develop new approaches to evaluate genomic alterations resulting from CRISPR/Cas12a editing. Experience with spatial genomics and NGS is a plus. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment alongside top researchers and industry leaders. Your work will be critical to advancing the field of gene editing and improving our understanding of how to engineer the genome for therapeutic purposes.

The selected candidate will collaborate with scientific teams to identify genomic assay development requirements, propose the optimal approach, and define the experimental design and timelines. The successful candidate will oversee the coordination of assay validation in partnership with scientific teams. Upon validation, the candidate will lead the transfer of new assays to a high-throughput production process. A thorough understanding of genomics, cell culture and experience with Next Generation Sequencing Technologies will be essential to successfully execute this objective.

Additionally, the chosen candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to devise innovative in vivo delivery techniques for CRISPR/Cas12a. They will partner with Computational Biology and Informatics teams to aid in the design Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) tools for building analysis pipelines, monitoring process performance, collecting data, and establishing performance metrics. This will lead to the establishment of a resilient and efficient genomics platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovative thinker that can independently determine and develop the best assays to address scientific questions.
  • Consult with program scientists on novel assay development.
  • Mentor and train junior scientists.
  • Interact directly with the CompBio/Informatics team to develop custom analysis pipelines for new assays.
  • Individual will serve as a team expert on the most current and advanced sequencing technologies.
  • Work with the Informatics and Sequencing Production team to automate, process and track samples and sequencing data.
  • Present new methodology and results to leadership team and company scientific meetings.
  • Maintain and update ELN.
  • Summarize data into study reports.
  • Keep up with the literature on new sequencing methods and technologies.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD (2+) or MS (10+) degree in molecular biology or related field.
  • 2+ (PhD) years hands-on genomics assay development.
  • Skilled molecular biologist with a proven track record.
  • Background in genomics desired with experience in short and long read sequencing technologies.
  • Experience working in a high-throughput screening or sequencing environment desired.
  • Ability to perform with versatility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated, highly skilled and capable of working independently to drive assignments to completion, well-organized with attention to details, analytical and results-oriented.
  • Excellent presentation skills, documenting laboratory work, and utilizing electronic sample tracking systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with automation is a plus: Beckman FX, Labcyte Echo, and the MANTIS liquid handler.
  • Experience with Illumina, Oxford Nanopore and PacBio technologies is desired.

Benefits Summary:

Editas provides a comprehensive array of benefits to all employees, including a Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO Medical Plan, a company-funded Health Savings Account, Dental and Vision Insurance, Life and Disability Insurance, Dependent Care Account, Tuition Reimbursement, 401(k) plan with company match, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Plan, Wellness Programs, and a flexible Paid Time Off policy.
