Position Summary

We’re working on innovative foods and formulas that rival healthcare, pharma, human food, and tech companies around the world—foods and formulas that can extend the lives and cognitive function in maturing dogs and cats. We’re developing ways to improve the vision of cats and minimize pet allergies through quality nutrition. We were the first ever to extrude dry dog food and we’re backed by a lengthy list of patents—a portfolio of industry firsts.

Over 500 scientists make everything we think about come to life. We’re nutritionists, chemists, immunologists, microbiologists, veterinarians, and the alike. But, what we do stretches far beyond our titles. It’s a dare we accepted from the very beginning – the dare to ‘Stand Taller’.

Lead the scientific content strategy with internal and external stakeholders, continue to build new and nurture existing relationships with a functional global network of external influentials and alliances to promote Purina's scientific credentials and gain recognition of our science and expertise.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Purina Institute (PI) Scientific content strategy & development
    • Lead PI content strategy for all major innovations, fully aligned with all key stakeholders (including Head of research, R&D, legal, IP, GSBU).
    • Ensure all content developed is highly relevant for the specific target audiences and applicable in the markets globally, soliciting regular feedback from relevant regional stakeholders. (Content is typically used across all touch points i.e. conferences & scientific events, website, traditional & digital media plus internal and external training materials relating to the science).
    • Ensure appropriate approval process is completed; provide direction and create guidelines for use regarding the localization of content.
  • Global strategic education veterinary partnerships and Key Opinion Leaders management
    • Further strengthen existing strategic education veterinary partnerships with global reach & influence (full management – including negotiation of sponsorship, creation of contracts, annual assessment & evaluation for ROI).
    • Review and negotiate new opportunities to gain equity by association within the scope of the existing sponsorships.
    • Identify and develop new strategic veterinary alliances partnerships with global reach and influence: initiate relationships and negotiate contracts and deliverables. Define the KPIs with annual assessment and evaluation.
    • Strategically activate & expand the Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) network globally.
    • Provide support & direction to regions / key markets to identify & build strategic KOL networks, including in-person meetings with KOLs to support the initial engagements.
    • Define selection criteria for regions to identify strategic veterinary organisations to partner with (beyond attending congresses). Provide support to identify and prioritise organisations and provide support for engagement when required.
  • Working closely with the Communications & Scientific Events Directors, define & implement the communications Purina Institute Brand Plan, allocating the appropriate resources, including leveraging external support when required. Review performance versus KPIs.
  • Represent the Purina Institute as a technical expert when required (GSBU, External stakeholders, regions,) and provide speaking, consulting, editorial competencies when required.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years broad management experience
  • Doctoral Degree from an accredited institution (DVM, MD, or PhD)

Other:

  • Experience in managing multi-projects, collaborating and working successfully with multiple stakeholders and across multi-functional teams. International experience preferred.
  • Experienced with a deep understanding regarding the 'who', the 'how', the 'what' when communicating scientific information to both scientific and non-scientific audiences, including publishing in peer reviewed journals and /or scientific conferences.
  • Experience of working in industry (pet food, veterinary pharmaceutical, or human food) or at a communications/consulting agency

The approximate pay range for this position is $184,000 to $227,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of the position.
