Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Product Development, the Senior Scientist manages and participates in technical projects and activities for Nestle Health Sciences, VMHS (vitamin, mineral, herbs and supplements) , and the development of branded new products including design and technology transfer of new formulas, processes, products, line extensions, in addition to providing technical support to core products as needed.

This position contributes to the successful execution of new product development activities inclusive of Stage Gate and core Product Development activities and exploits enabling technology and delivery form platforms to support growth of current and future Nestle Health Sciences Brands and Platforms. This position will be the technical lead for all VMHS projects where Soft Gels as well as capsules and compressed tablets are the primary delivery forms. This position will be located at Capsuleworks Bayport Long Island.

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, manage and complete technical projects and activities necessary to design, develop and optimize new and improved formulations/products/delivery systems for VMHS products that meet customer needs.
• Creatively links formulation and/or product science and technology opportunities to the needs of the business through development and transfer of new products from Idea to Commercialization, transfers technologies from bench/pilot to manufacturing scale and successfully implements proprietary and differentiated technical solutions
• Conducts design and development activities where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of variable factors. Contributes to the development of new principles or concepts that lead to capability and competency enhancements and/or higher impact/value opportunities.
• Collect, analyze, interpret, draw conclusions and make recommendations from data to enable technical execution of projects. Modify methodologies to improve the quality, accuracy and usefulness of data. Provide technical recommendations to Project and Brand teams through clear and concise oral and written communications.
• Participates in writing Master Batch Records (MBR’s) for internal manufacture, raw material and bulk specifications and other manufacturing documents needed for feasibility, development and manufacturing activities in both internal and external facilities.
• Partners closely with technical staff as needed at internal and external contract research, development and manufacturing sites to successfully advance projects.
• Participates in the development, documentation and transfer of critical ingredient, product, and process parameters/specifications to internal and external Manufacturing and Quality Assurance functions to ensure consumer focused and robust design of new products, processes and characterizing methods. Ensure that proper documentation for all technical and project work is completed.
• Design, conduct and document stability testing protocols to support product development efforts in order to recommend and support product dating.
• Lead technical activities to assist advancement of multiple projects concurrently through the Stage Gate product development process.
• Engage in pre-formulation, formulation and formulation enhancement activities including bench, pilot and production scale trials at internal and external development and manufacturing sites.
• Prepare cost quotes for new products targeting proposed claims and product benefits.
• Conduct scientific review and specification of required active ingredients.
• As the PD formulation lead, organizes and facilitates cross-functional team discussions with R&D, Marketing, Quality, and Supply-Chain project leads to drive decision making and progress on new product development initiatives.
• Represents PD on specific/required project calls.
• Approximately 10-20% travel is required.

Experience and Education Requirements:
• BSc, MSC, or PhD in engineering, technology or sciences or equivalent
• Minimum 5+ years applicable science/engineering or related discipline
• Factory experience Preferred

Knowledge of:
• Nutritional formulations
• Aseptic process development
• Emulsion technology
• Protein/mineral interactions
• HCN institutional and retail business
• Business operating systems and software
• Sensory science

The approximate pay range for this position is $125,000 to 145,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
