Position Summary:

The Laboratory Services Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing all Quality Control activities at their manufacturing site, as well as other supported sites. This position entails providing strong leadership and guidance to the Laboratory Quality team, specifically in the areas of chemical, physical, and microbiological testing and evaluation of dietary supplements. Additionally, the Laboratory Services Manager is an integral member of the factory leadership team, contributing to the overall success and excellence of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all laboratory operations in the site's quality control laboratory.
  • Provide support for the global stability program, ensuring coverage for all product families and matrices to effectively support our range of products.
  • This role will require you to have the capability to train and develop people with method development.

  • Review Out-of-Specification (OOS) and manufacturing investigation reports to identify necessary corrective and preventive actions.
  • Offer logistical and resource support to meet throughput expectations and customer fill rates, including supply and personnel resources, as well as guidance for prioritization.
  • Evaluate end-of-study and investigation reports for stability studies and determine appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Supervise testing and address any issues related to raw materials and manufactured products tested in the chemistry and microbiology laboratory.
  • Collaborate with the Sr. Manager and Site Director to establish and implement laboratory best practices.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Sr. Quality Manager in their absence.
  • Participate in site regulatory audits and review regulatory and customer audit reports, implementing any necessary corrective and preventive actions based on audit observations.
  • Optimize laboratory testing processes to enhance throughput while ensuring product quality and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the recruiting and compensation departments to conduct interviews and make compensation offers to potential candidates.
  • Take ownership of and implement quality management systems and test plans in accordance with corporate policies and procedures, creating and managing fully functioning control laboratories that adhere to CFR 111 and ISO 17025 requirements for chemical and microbiological analysis of raw materials, in-process, and bulk dietary supplements.
  • Communicate effectively with raw material/component suppliers, Global Supplier Quality, and Procurement to address quality issues and achieve resolution.
  • Monitor the performance and competency of Quality staff and provide necessary development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or significant Quality Control Laboratory experience can be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
  • 10+ years of experience managing Quality Control Laboratory, preferably in the nutritional supplement or pharmaceutical industry.
  • 5+ years of experience leading medium to large teams
  • Experience with global quality standard setting is a plus.
  • Expertise in working with CFR 111 and ISO 17025 requirements
  • Experience with analytical method development strongly preferred.

  • Ability to lead, train, motivate, and develop successful teams.
  • Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting complex documents.
  • Ability to effectively respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Capable of applying principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with associates, management, and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to understand and interpret nonverbal symbolism such as formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiar with basic laboratory record-keeping systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within teams along with strong influencing skills.
  • Passion for continuous learning, teaching, and building capabilities in others.
  • Assertive self-starter who consistently displays strong leadership skills and works well as a team player.
  • Maintains effectiveness during major changes in work tasks or the work environment, adjusting effectively to new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.
