Position Summary

Our Nestlé Development Center (NDC) in St. Joseph, MO is home to dogs and cats who help us learn, research, and better understand the well-being of pets and promote the human animal bond. When you join us, you'll work to ensure our pets have the best quality of care while participating in cutting edge pet food research. Research that contributes to innovative, first to market dietary solutions as well as trusted all life stage pet food. Our center is located near the metropolitan area of Kansas City, within 30 minutes of the Kansas City International airport. St. Joseph is a tight-knit, rural community packed with character, still within commuting distance to the city thus, providing many residential opportunities.
As a Veterinary Assistant, you will perform and assist with the necessary work and support related to the health care of the cats and dogs under supervision of a veterinarian. You’ll gain knowledge of and compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and all procedures and protocols in the Nestlé Purina R&D Petcare Manual, QMS and GLP.

  • Review prescriptions, administer treatments, and observe animals during treatment; monitor & report progress to veterinarians
  • Perform daily rounds and report to the veterinarians sick or unusual behavior
  • Provide care of pets in clinic including handling, husbandry, and cleaning duties
  • Perform surgery supply set-up including sterilization of surgical instruments and patient preparation for surgical procedures
  • Gain the knowledge to monitor heart rate, respiration, and temperature of patient during and after minor anesthetic procedure
  • Main necessary records including animal and anesthetic/prophylactic care records and filing/inputting laboratory results
  • Record animal medical/clinical data as outlined in protocol; enter health into database


Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 1+ years of professional working with animal husbandry experience OR a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Zoology, or a scientific field


Other

  • 1+ years of experience working in an animal clinic environment is preferred
  • 1+ years of experience assisting with dental cleanings is preferred
  • Must be willing to work overtime hours if needed

The approximate pay range for this position is $32,800.00 to $45,000.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of the position.
